In public housing we were basically overlooked in the community. But now people see our flower gardens, cooking classes, and inspirational banners, and they want to use our ideas in town.

I was pastoring in the community and I saw the housing authority had started doing things a little differently from what I had observed at other community housing authorities. They showed more interest in the people. They were also bringing in the arts. That was attractive to me. There’s more to life than just trying to make it or to survive.
